The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon – 9.19.2010 – 7:30 a.m.
“Cross the Potomac to an Awakening”

From Mount Vernon, Va., over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to National Harbor, Md.

The famous Woodrow Wilson Bridge has been a landmark of the Washington landscape since the early 1960s. But one that was off-limits to runners for nearly five decades.

Now, for the first time ever, you can race across the bridge from Virginia into Maryland and its new National Harbor resort.

All because the old bridge, which took vehicles over the historic Potomac River on Interstate 95 between Virginia and Maryland, was replaced by a new bridge in 2008.

Massive yet graceful, the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge is an iconic addition to the skyline of the nation’s capital. In addition to eliminating gridlock, the bridge offers a wide running path complete with breath-taking views of the White House, U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, Old Town Alexandria and National Harbor.

Run for time, run for place, run to lose weight, run to raise money for one of our six stellar charity partners, run in honor or memory of somebody special, or just run as a celebration of your own life.

Why ever you run, imagine yourself at the starting line at the majestic Mount Vernon estate of our first president George Washington, then traversing up the wide scenic road – not bicycle path - of the national park named in his honor, the beautiful George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Once on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge – the bicycle path, not the highway, sorry! - you must master the half-mile uphill challenge appropriately dubbed “The Rude Awakening,” en route to the new and inspiring resort and convention center known as National Harbor, the D.C. Metro area’s premier lifestyle destination.

The famous Awakening statue awaits your arrival at the finish line. Then we celebrate your success at our grand post-race party, complete with entertainment, food and a beer truck!

If you are from out of town, make this a fantastic weekend destination half marathon.
